Oklahoma Unclaimed Money

Oklahoma unclaimed money
Oklahoma is currently holding over $700 million in unclaimed money and property

Oklahoma unclaimed money totals are more than $700 million in lost cash and property. Currently those funds are held in over 1 million accounts. This past fiscal year was the best year ever since the state treasurer took over returning money in 2000 with nearly $52 million returned. According to a report, the largest account ever paid out was $2 million with several other million dollar claims.

Oklahoma has a searchable database on their website OKTreasure.com. When you put in your name be sure to use our search strategies as they won’t list all the results if there are too many matches. Once you narrow down the results, they will show the name the account is held under, address, city and zip code of record as well as whether the amount is under or over $100. You can initiate a claim online, but you must mail proof of ownership along with the form.

Once a claim is filed, you can check the status of your claim online using your claim ID. They offer quite a bit of information regarding the claim status including: waiting for check, initiated, Evidence letter sent, dropped, denied, approval in process, and paid.

This past summer the state held an auction of its tangible unclaimed property. Oklahoma’s unclaimed property department auctioned off over 600 safe deposit boxes including a dollar bill from the 1800’s, a Steve Young signed football, and other valuable items. The proceeds from this event will be held in accounts for original owners to claim.
