New Jersey Unclaimed Money
Since its creation the NJ Unclaimed Money Administration has returned nearly $2 billion to New Jersey residents

New Jersey unclaimed money totals are now more than $4.5 billion in money and property.  Like some states now, New Jersey has opted to use MissingMoney.com’s online database.  They offer an interactive section on their website to actually search there, then you’re redirected to the missing money site.  Once a claim is filed you can also check the status of a claim using the claim ID number and last name.

This site is very interactive and can offer you many different options in searching.  When on the site, use our Search Strategies to try to find your money!  Search partial names in case of misspellings as well as searching just your last name and town.  The other advantage to this site is you can search ‘all states’ that use the missing money database, meaning if you’ve lived in another state you can find money owed to you!

If you would like, you can also fill out a paper form and mail it directly to the state office (listed below).  Claims turnaround varies and can take around 8 weeks to complete.

New Jersey Unclaimed Money Outreach

In Fiscal year 2018 the state of New Jersey returned over $142 million in unclaimed money to over 50,000 residents, with the largest claim at $3.6 million.  That is an average of almost $3000 per claim.  Since its inception the NJ Unclaimed Property Administration has returned nearly $2 billion in missing money to its rightful owners.

New Jersey also offers outreach events on an almost monthly basis to help educate residents on their unclaimed money program.  These events are held at a variety of places including summer camp expos, public libraries and even health expos.
